Each day, one in five Americans occupies a school building. The majority of these occupants are children. Environmental asthma triggers commonly found in school buildings include:

  • cockroaches and other pests
  • mold resulting from excess moisture in the building
  • dander from animals in the classroom
  • dander brought in on clothing from animals at home.

Common Moisture Sources Found in Schools

Moisture problems in school buildings can be caused by a variety of conditions, including roof and plumbing leaks, condensation and excess humidity. Some moisture problems in schools have been linked to changes in building construction practices during the past twenty to thirty years. These changes have resulted in more tightly sealed buildings that may not allow moisture to escape easily.

Moisture problems in schools are also associated with delayed maintenance or insufficient maintenance, due to budget and other constraints. Temporary structures in schools, such as trailers and portable classrooms, have frequently been associated with moisture and mold problems.

In 2014, the National Center for Educations Statistics surveyed a sample of school districts and estimated that the average age of the nation’s main school buildings was 55 years old – putting the average date of construction for our nation’s schools at 1959. Additionally. nearly one-fourth of the nation’s schools have one or more buildings in need of extensive repair or replacement and nearly half have been reported to have problems related to indoor air quality (IAQ).

The health and comfort of students and teachers are among the many factors that contribute to learning and productivity in the classroom, which in turn affect performance and achievement.  Providing a healthy, comfortable environment is an investment in your students and staff. Failure to respond promptly and effectively to poor indoor air quality in schools can lead to severe consequences. These may include an increase in short- and long-term health problems costly repairs, potential liability problems and greater risk that schools will need to close and temporarily relocate staff and students.

Bactronix specializes in fighting the invisible enemy. What is the invisible enemy? The invisible enemies are microscopic organisms, too small for the eye to even see, that live and thrive in areas of water. These microbes, like mold, mildew and other harmful bacteria can then present multiple problems and diseases for us, our employees and our families.

Our Services

Air Duct Cleaning

Air duct cleaning is the thorough cleaning of various components of forced air systems that heat and cool your home. This process typically includes cleaning the supply and return ducts, registers, diffusers, system coils, condensate drain pan, fan motor, and the cabinetry that houses the system.

Mold Testing & Assessment

A mold test is a procedure used to detect the presence of mold spores in the environment, assess indoor air quality, and identify potential health risks associated with mold exposure.

Mold Treatment

Mold thrives in damp environments, so the first step is to identify and fix any sources of moisture, such as leaks, condensation, or high humidity levels. Ensure proper ventilation in areas prone to moisture, like bathrooms and kitchens.

Dryer Vent Cleaning

Dryer vent cleaning is the process of removing lint and debris from the dryer vent system to improve dryer efficiency and reduce fire hazards.
